Safe Operation Guide & Checklist Complete table
Create a clear, step-by-step checklist a new apprentice must complete before using the equipment.
Your checklist must include visual condition checks, guards and safety features, hygiene or biosecurity where relevant, technology checks and what to do if something is not OK.
| Check | OK / Not OK | Action if Not OK |
|---|---|---|
| Visual condition of the equipment and work area | Stop and report damage, leaks, loose parts or any unsafe condition before use. | |
| Guards, gates, covers and other safety features are in place | Do not use the equipment until the missing or damaged guard or gate is repaired. | |
| Technology screen, sensors, controls and settings are correct | Re-check the setup, reset if needed and ask a supervisor for help if it still does not work. | |
| Calibration, zeroing or reading is correct | Stop and correct the setting before any animals, crops or materials are processed. | |
| Cleaning, hygiene or biosecurity standard is acceptable | Clean, disinfect or prepare the area before starting. | |
| The area is clear and safe for the task | Move people, animals and obstacles away before work begins. | |
| The apprentice has the right training and supervision | Do not allow use until the person is trained and the supervisor is present. | |
| If anything is not OK, work stops and the issue is reported | Pause the task, make it safe and tell the supervisor immediately. |
New User Reminder List Display nearby
This is not a checklist. It is a short "do not be that person" list that could be displayed on or near the equipment.
- Always zero the weigh head before animals enter.
- Never stand behind the gate when closing it.
- If tags fail to read, stop and report it instead of guessing.
- Do not bypass a guard, cover or safety interlock.
- Check the screen or control panel before you start the job.
- Use the correct settings before any feed, seed, spray or weight data is recorded.
- If the equipment sounds, smells or behaves differently, stop and report it.
- Keep hands, clothing and equipment away from moving parts.
- Do not rush the job just to save time.
Write the reminders in the same blunt, practical style you would use on a yard sign.
