This project reflects real on-farm practice, where mistakes affect people, animals, crops, compliance and costs.
At Level 3, you are expected to do more than operate equipment. You need to understand it, explain it, supervise other people and show that you can take responsibility for safe use.
- Use the booklet as your rough guide and notepad.
- Choose one piece of farm equipment that is covered by PUWER and is not a road vehicle.
- Include some form of technology in your choice.
- Complete each section and upload your final evidence to OneFile.
The 3 Farm Safe Sections Work in order
Work through the sections in order. Each page explains what the apprentice needs to produce and what the assessor will be looking for.
Section 1
Equipment & Technology Induction: Equipment briefing & technology explained.
Write a clear induction for a new Level 2 apprentice using one named piece of equipment.
Section 2
Safe Operation Pack: Pre-start checklist & New User Reminder List.
Create a simple check table and a short reminder list that can be displayed near the equipment.
Section 3
FARM SAFE: Think Like a Supervisor Report: Communication, professional responsibility & emergency response.
Write a supervisor report explaining how you would keep the equipment safe and legal, and how you would respond to an injury or emergency.

These three documents should cover the equipment overview, technology explanation, pre-start checklist, new user reminder list, professional responsibility and emergency response.
Optional extras that add value include photos of the equipment, annotated screen images and a supervisor witness comment.
Helpful Guidance Before upload
- Suitable examples include a cattle crush with weigh head and EID reader, sheep handling system with automatic drafter, robotic milking unit, automated calf milk feeder, GPS-guided fertiliser spreader, seed drill with electronic rate control, grain dryer control panel or sprayer section control system.
- Keep the language clear, practical and simple enough for a new Level 2 apprentice to understand.
- Check that each answer sounds like you are supervising the work, not just describing how the machine works.
